Video formats, browser playback and cloud restoration

Maintained by the uncensorcloud project · Last reviewed

A video container being accepted for upload does not guarantee that every codec inside it can be decoded. Cloud processing checks the actual streams. Some source videos cannot play in your browser but can still produce a playable cloud MP4 preview.

Accepted input containers

MP4, M4V, MKV, MOV, WebM, AVI, TS, MTS, M2TS, M2T, MPEG, MPG, MPE, VOB, WMV, ASF, FLV, OGV, OGG video, 3GP, 3G2 and MXF are accepted input containers. Audio-only, unreadable and incomplete files are rejected.

Cloud source limits are 20 GB, 4K resolution, 120 FPS and two hours. The actual streams are checked by the GPU service. Desktop imports also require SDR, 8-bit video.

If the browser cannot play the source

Keep the selected file and use the numeric preview start time in automatic mode. The cloud can read supported source streams even when the browser cannot display them. Manual region editing requires a source that can be played in the browser.

TS and MPEG sources are prepared as indexed containers before seeking and processing. The source is not automatically recompressed just to make browser playback work. Returned browser previews use H.264 MP4; full-video output uses MP4 with source dimensions and audio.

Check the source before retrying

An extension alone does not tell you whether a file is complete or which codecs it contains. Confirm that the original plays in a compatible local player and that the selected preview time falls inside the video.

Start with a short preview before uploading or processing a large batch. Preserve the original file. Repeated recompression can reduce the detail available to a restoration model.
